NEHAWU Western Cape Concludes A Wage Agreement With Cape Peninsula University Of Technology

Saturday June 25, 2022

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union [NEHAWU] in the Western Cape has concluded a wage agreement with the Cape Peninsula University of Technology [CPUT] for the year 2022 with the implementation date being 01 January 2022.

This agreement was reached following lengthy negotiations with the negotiating team of the institution. As part of the signed agreement parties agreed on the following:

Cost of Living Adjustment

Grade Increase
Grade 14 – 18: 6.2% salary increase;
Grade 9 – 13: 5.5% salary increase;
Grade 5 – 8: 4.5% salary increase

Term of Agreement – Single Term

Parties further agreed to defer the following matters to Employee Relations Consultative Forum:

- Transport allowance;
- Shift allowance for security employees;
- Night Shift allowance;
- Medical Aid;
- Long Service awards; and
- Danger allowance for Security employees.

The union view this concluded agreement as a necessary intervention in light of the COVID-19 hardships which have led to many workers losing their jobs in various sectors, and the escalating food and fuel prices.

NEHAWU will continue to fight for the improvement of salaries and working conditions of its members and workers in general. Our members can rest assured that they have a fighting union on their side. We will continue to wage a relentless war to protect workers' interests and defend collective bargaining at all costs.
